Type: Free

Frozen shoulder is a common disorder that causes pain and loss of shoulder range of motion and is more common in women aged 40 to 60 years. If we do not seek treatment, we will suffer much more and more in the long run. In this post, we try to make you familiar with this disease.

What are the symptoms of frozen shoulder?

Frozen shoulder usually occurs subconsciously, and in order not to cause more pain, we must immobilize it to prevent excessive pain. Treatment usually takes 2 to 9 months.

How is frozen shoulder treated?

To treat a frozen shoulder, you should see a physiotherapist. Usually, the doctor will ask you to do a series of exercises after the examination and tests and avoid lifting heavy objects or anything that causes pain in the shoulder area. It takes patience and time throughout the treatment. Activities that can help treat frozen shoulder include:

  • Hot shower for 10 to 15 minutes
  • Using a warm towel
  • Using hot water bags
  • Doing stretching exercises if it does not hurt

Stretching exercises should be done as follows:

  • Face a wall at a distance of three-quarters of an arm's length. With the fingers of the afflicted arm, reach out and touch the wall at waist level. Slowly move your fingers up the wall, spider-like, until you've elevated your arm to shoulder level, or as far as you comfortably can, with your elbow slightly bent as it is shown in the picture below:

Lift your afflicted arm at the elbow and pull it up and across your body with your fine arm, using slight pressure to extend the shoulder. For 15 to 20 seconds, hold the stretch. Do this exercise ten to twenty times a day as it is shown below:

Lift the injured arm onto a shelf approximately breast-high with your good arm. Bend your knees gently to open up the armpit. Straighten your leg after a modest knee bend, softly extending the armpit just like the picture below:
